A classifier is a screening machine configured with multiple screen decks of progressively finer mesh to separate a single feed stream into three or more precisely graded size fractions simultaneously. Classification is one of the most valuable applications of round vibratory separators.

Material enters the top of the separator and encounters the coarsest screen first. Oversize is discharged at each deck while undersize falls to the next finer screen. A five-deck classifier produces six graded fractions from a single feed in one compact machine.
Classifier Deck Configurations
| Decks | Fractions | Example Mesh Sizes | Application |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 3 | 20 / 60 mesh | Sugar grading |
| 3 | 4 | 10 / 40 / 100 mesh | Chemical granules |
| 4 | 5 | 8 / 20 / 60 / 200 mesh | Mineral classification |
| 5 | 6 | 6 / 14 / 30 / 60 / 120 mesh | Abrasive grading |
Why This Matters in Vibratory Screening
- Multiple products from one machine — Classification produces several saleable size grades simultaneously.
- Compact footprint — A multi-deck separator replaces multiple single-deck units.
- Consistent grading — Each fraction's particle size distribution is controlled by the mesh sizes selected.

Classifier FAQs
What is a classifier in vibratory screening?
A classifier is a vibratory screener with multiple screen decks for separating material into three or more graded size fractions in a single pass.

How many fractions can a classifier produce?
One more than the number of decks: 2 decks = 3 fractions, up to 5 decks = 6 fractions.
