The Problem: Sand in the Feedstock
Texas Renewable Solutions came to us with a problem specific to their business: they convert used food grease into diesel that gets sold to oil companies, and heavy sand contamination in their feedstock was working against them at every stage. Their process relies on an acid-based method to separate the oil, sand, and water within the grease solution. The sand wasn't just ending up in the final product. It was also grinding down the mills and separators used to process the mixture. Every hour of run time was costing them more in wear and downtime than it should have.
Free Material Testing at ScreenerKing
Texas Renewable Solutions brought a sample of their material to ScreenerKing's testing facility in Houston, Texas, on September 10, 2026, for free material testing, which we offer to any prospective customer with a contamination problem, no obligation attached. Our team ran their actual material through a 60-inch ScreenerKing SiftPro 60 fitted with a 200-mesh screen.
The Results: 89% Sand Removal
The results were hard to argue with. The SiftPro 60 pulled approximately 89% of the sand out of the grease. That's not a small improvement. It's a much cleaner product stream. With the sand gone, the acid separation process has far less to fight through, and the mills and separators the sand had been chewing up are running on a much gentler feed.
Why This Matters
For an operation handling this kind of contaminated feedstock, that has a dollar value attached to it well beyond the test itself. Contaminated grease is expensive to handle: it costs more to process, it complicates recovery, and it shortens the life of the equipment that touches it. Cutting sand contamination by nearly 90% doesn't just solve today's problem. It changes the cost structure of the whole operation going forward.
It's also a good illustration of what free material testing is for. Rather than asking a customer to take our word for it, we run their actual material through the actual machine and let the numbers speak. Grease-water mixtures behave differently depending on viscosity, temperature, and how the contamination is distributed through the material, so testing the real thing is the only way to get a real answer.
A Partnership Going Forward
Texas Renewable Solutions has since become a ScreenerKing customer, and they plan to keep working with us across all of their screening operations.
"ScreenerKing is a great company, and we plan to continue our partnership with them for all of our screening operations."

FAQ
Can a vibratory screener remove sand from grease?
Yes. In a test at our Houston facility, a ScreenerKing SiftPro 60 with a 200-mesh screen removed about 89% of the sand from Texas Renewable Solutions' used food grease. Now that the unit is installed, Texas Renewable Solutions reports it's performing great in their plant.
What screen mesh was used to separate sand from grease?
A 200-mesh screen on a 60-inch SiftPro 60. The right mesh depends on your material, which is why we test a sample first.
Does ScreenerKing offer free material testing?
Yes. Send us a sample of your material and we'll run it through the actual machine at our Houston facility, with no obligation. Email support@screenerking.com or call us to set it up.
